BIO

Dingo Babusch, born Jan Haas near Stuttgart, Germany, is a renowned street artist and graffiti writer whose vibrant career spans over three decades. A pivotal figure in the Stuttgart graffiti scene since the early 90s, Babusch has channeled his passion for art into a dynamic exploration of urban expression, blending creativity with social commentary. His work transcends mere aesthetics, diving deep into societal issues and personal visions, offering a unique perspective on the intersection of art and culture.
From 1994 to 1997, Babusch trained as a professional sign-maker, honing skills that would later inform his distinctive style. His dedication to the craft earned him the prestigious Interior Design Award in 2011, recognizing his innovative approach to transforming spaces. Babusch’s art has been showcased in prominent exhibitions across global cultural hubs, including New York, Vienna, Copenhagen, Munich, and Milan, Lisboa establishing him as an influential voice in the international street art community.
In 2005, Babusch (with Kim Wurster) authored Sprüher im Rudel, a seminal documentation of Stuttgart’s graffiti writing history, cementing his role as both a practitioner and historian of the movement. His 2006 residency in New York further expanded his influence, where he built connections within the global art scene and served as a guest speaker at a Brooklyn school. Upon returning to Stuttgart, he and a friend founded the artist collective 2WEI, fostering collaborative projects and workshops that continue to inspire emerging artists.
Babusch’s second book, Down Here We Are Equal (published 2023), delves beyond graffiti into themes of urban exploration, freedom, and the tension between art and society. His work, characterized by bold colors and intricate designs, invites viewers to engage with the essence of cultural and personal narratives rather than fleeting trends. As he states, “Graffiti art gives me the scope to explore in full and interesting ways. It allows me to dive into issues and deal with their essence, connecting both to myself and to the world.”
Currently based in Stuttgart, Babusch remains an active force in the art world, contributing to projects. His artwork, available through platforms like Artfinder and Fine Art America, includes canvas prints, framed pieces, and original paintings, reflecting his commitment to making art accessible.

Dingo Babusch’s enduring passion and innovative spirit continue to redefine the boundaries of street art, inspiring audiences worldwide to explore the transformative power of creativity.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Ever since childhood, painting has been my sanctuary, a constant thread woven through the tapestry of my life. Certain experiences, when I reflect on them, have profoundly shaped my artistic journey. Creating art is more than a craft—it’s a refuge, a way to immerse myself in a world entirely my own. Like losing oneself in a captivating film or a profound book, painting transports me to a place of quiet intensity and boundless imagination.

Inspiration can be elusive, sometimes lying dormant for stretches of time. But when the urge to create strikes, it’s all-consuming—a spark that pulls me into a new work with an almost magnetic force. I find my truest expression in the stillness of late evenings and nights, where uninterrupted solitude allows my creativity to flow freely.

Yet, there are moments of doubt, when the vibrant colors and vivid imagery become overwhelming, and I question myself. But even in those shadows, I recognize that this process—this dance between creation and introspection—is an intrinsic part of who I am. My art is not just what I do; it’s where I find meaning, connection, and truth.
